Boise County

Horseshoe Bend is the largest city in the county, named after its location at the horseshoe-shaped turnaround from south to north of the Payette River. The town’s culture is a rural blend of lumber, ranching, mining and railroading. Annual family events include a banjo festival and senior pro rodeo in the summer with an autumn festival in October. The Thunder Mountain Line, a scenic railroad excursion, is also based in town.

A gem along the scenic loop and nestled along the Wildlife Canyon Scenic Byway, Garden Valley hosts exceptional wildlife viewing, hot springs and picturesque mountain scenery. Garden Valley is the perfect getaway for residents, surrounded by mountains, forests and rivers, offering activities for anyone’s fancy. From cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in winter to hiking and camping in summer to hunting season in the fall, residents find the absolute best the outdoors has to offer in Garden Valley.

Other cities in the county include the county seat of Idaho City, Banks, Crouch, Gardena, Lowman, Pioneerville, Placerville and Steirman to name a few. With several properties to choose from, including recreational, vacation, rural, weekend cabins, river front, golf course, townhouses, horse/farm property, scenic view lots and the quiet solutions of trees, living in Boise County is one of the most beautiful areas anywhere. Residents can indulge in golf, hunting, fishing, kayaking, rafting, horseback riding, and mountain biking, hiking or soaking in the natural hot springs.

Nestled in the 18 square mile basin of Idaho’s heartland in the silhouette of the Rocky Mountains, Boise County is dotted with abandoned diggings, mills and towns from the miners of yore. With a pristine river flowing through its borders, Boise County finds its roots from the gold rush days of the 1800s. Offering dramatic natural backgrounds, outdoor activities, historical significance and economical housing options, the county has a variety of reasons why residents call it home. Additionally, within a short distance, there are a number of museums, including the Boise Art Museum, Idaho Historical Museum and the Discovery Center of Idaho. Several theater groups operate in the city, including the Idaho Shakespeare Festival, Boise Little Theatre and the Boise Contemporary Theatre among others. Boise is also a regional hub for jazz and theater.
